An exciting development is underway as area libraries host staff training in Safe Haven state law. The Baby Doe Initiative is pleased to partner with Mississippi libraries and provide current Safe Haven training, recognizing libraries as community hubs of educational resources for families.
Please pray we can continue to make a difference in communities through key locations such as libraries, and that God will grow and bless this important work for families, mothers in crisis, and especially newborns!
We so value our supporters and appreciate the encouragement in our launching, and as we work to establish and grow the Baby Doe Initiative.
May God guide and direct our efforts in 2024, and most importantly, may He bless His little ones whom we seek to protect and honor through providing support to mothers and all involved.
As of April 2023, Mississippi's state Safe Haven laws were revised and approved by Governor Reeves to broaden the receiving window for surrendered newborns. The law change extended the original (72-hour or younger) age of eligible infants and opened the sanction to allow up to 45 days old. This is a major victory!
To support emergency professionals in the position to receive newborns under this new, broader law, the Baby Doe Initiative offers free readiness training to fire stations and first responders, while providing educational support within communities.
